HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Over 25 years ago, Velu, a fisherman from Auroville, stumbled upon a broken surfboard washed ashore on the beach. Not knowing the sport of surfing and after seeing a tourist surf, Velu was spellbound. With little more than boat resin and a makeshift coconut rope leash, he restored the board to life. From that first surfboard repair, Velu’s journey into the world of surfing began—an adventure that would ultimately lead to the founding of Aloha Surf India and a deep, passionate life-long love for surfing.
Velu’s connection to the ocean runs deep; he has spent his life navigating its tides and working its waters. Surfing brought him an entirely new relationship with the sea—one of play, freedom, mindfulness and profound respect for the ocean and natural world. As he taught himself to ride waves, he discovered not only a passion but a calling. With each wave, Velu honed his skills and grew determined to share this experience with others.
Driven by this passion, Velus drive to pass down his knowledge to future generations has always been strong. His mastery with crafting the surfboards and generational understanding of the way and spirit of India’s oceans and coastal culture aswell as the deep respect for the ocean, runs throughout his life and gives him a unique perspective of surfing in India. His surfboards are more than just tools—they are reflections of the culture, patience, passion and artistry that has defined his life.
Today, Aloha Surf India stands as one of the country’s most authentic surf schools for learning how to surf, inviting people to connect with the ocean, experience the thrill of surfing, and learn from Velu’s legacy. Based in the serene beaches of Agonda, South Goa, we offer surf lessons, rentals, and a glimpse into a way of life that celebrates the sea, craftsmanship, and the joy of riding waves.

ALOHA SURF INDIA
After contributing to the establishment of one of North Goa's first surf schools, Velu began exploring a new location in South Goa, seeking a more tranquil environment away from the hustle and bustle of the north. In 2014, he discovered Agonda and, alongside his friend Poorna, founded Aloha Surf India, first surf school in South Goa. The vision behind Aloha Surf India was to cultivate a surf community—an inviting and inclusive space where individuals can share their passion for the sport and feel welcomed and secure on their unique surf journeys. Over the years Aloha Surf India have been an ever-changing, growing and dynamic family with contributors and friends from all over the world!
